BEAUTY DILEMMAS 0.1

It recently occurred to me that whilst I sit here rambling about new launches and makeup obsessions, so many of my friends and family who are in no way involved in the beauty industry still struggle with quite basic beauty dilemmas. So I reached out to my nearest and dearest to ask them for their current beauty dilemmas and the things they just can’t get right no matter how hard they try. I gathered the research, did some of my own and here’s what I came up with…

The colour of my powder blusher never shows as pigmented once it’s on my skin…
I used to struggle with this problem myself before I discovered the huge difference between a blusher brush made from synthetic hair and one made from natural hair. I love using synthetic brushes because they’re easy to clean and are usually more affordable but for powder products, especially blusher, the natural hairs pick up the pigment much better. You’ll see the difference if you use one with natural hair and the one I love using is the Japonesque Pro Blush Brush.

How can I learn to blow dry my own hair?
Let’s be real here, no matter how many times I’ve been shown how to blow dry my hair, it’s really, really hard and some people just don’t have that kind of coordination. There is a miracle product that can help you cheat though, so put the hair dryer and the brush down and get yourself a Babyliss Big Hair. Yes it’s a bit of an investment, but it’s one you won’t regret! The idea is basically a large rotating heated brush that you work through clean hair. The brush rotates both ways and has two heat settings, one hot and one cool to set your style in place. The soft bristles leave your hair really soft and shiny and the large brush gives a bit of volume and lift at the roots. It’s a hair dryer and brush all in one! Here’s a good video showing how it works featuring a very lovely lady who you’ll recognise.
P.s… My mum swears by hers!

Every time I try to do a dark smokey eye I am left with eyeshadow all over my face and under my eyes…
It happens to the best of us and it’s such a pain! If you are doing a really intense smokey eye, then leave your foundation and concealer to do after you’ve done the eyes. If you do it that way round, you can always clean up with makeup remover before starting on your base. If you’ve already done your base or prefer doing it that way round then here are few tips to avoid eyeshadow fall down. First of all, always take the excess product off the brush. So after you cover the brush in eyeshadow either swish it around on the back of your hand or just tap the brush so it’s not so powdery. You can also hold a cotton wool pad under your eye as you blend so it falls onto that or even invest in some Shadow Shields which stick onto your face and catch the shadow that falls down.

I always seem to smudge my nails after I paint them no matter how I long I wait…
I swear by the Seche Vite top coat and can’t use anything else. You can apply it quite generously and it dries really quickly and makes your polish last longer. I usually wait around 10 minutes until I risk using my hands. If you are really struggling and are not the patient type, try a quick dry spray like the Mavala Mavadry spray or drying drops like the O.P.I Drip Dry Lacquer Drying Drops

So there’s part 1 of what might turn into a regular feature if my friends and family keep sending over their dilemmas. In the meantime, let me know if you have any beauty dilemmas or queries by commenting on this post. I hope this has been helpful!
