PREPARING FOR A DATE

For the next two days I’ll be running a small series of posts to do with getting ready for a date or any kind of big event. Now please take my advice with a pinch of salt because something I forgot until sitting down to write this was that I have been in a relationship for the past 8 years… Despite being an amateur dater though, I have lots of single friends so let’s just say this is for them.

A good prepping session is always important the night before a date, wedding or party. If anything, do it for yourself because it’ll make you feel more confident.

Have great skin //
Most importantly make sure your skin is feeling and looking great, especially on your face. The REN Clay Clarifying cleanser is great for clearing out pores and clearing up yours skin so use this the night and morning before. If you feel like you’re getting spotty, try the Aesop Parsley Seed mask, it prevents them from appearing and leaves your skin feeling refreshed. If you’re wearing heels or sandals make sure your feet are sorted out, I love using the Margaret Dabbs exfoliating foot mousse to remove any dead skin and to brighten the skin. Noone wants to have dry lips on a date so use a lip scrub before hand to remove any dry skin, I love the Fresh Sugar lip scrub and usually follow with a nice lip balm. It’s all about having soft limbs so to help get rid of any dry or bumpy skin use a body scrub like the Elemis frangipani monoi salt glow. It smells amazing and works really well!

Get rid of that hair //
I’ll be the first to admit that I am one hairy lady, so this step is always vital for me! To get the ultimate smooth, hair-free legs I like to smother them with shaving gel (especially men’s shaving gel), shave the legs with a fresh shaver head and then rinse in the shower. If you suffer from ingrown hairs, Bliss do special pads you can rub over them and if your hair grows back as fast as mine does it’s worth trying the ‘Hair No More’ spray from the Skin Doctors. I can’t quite tell if it works yet but it promises to reduce hair re-growth so I’m putting all my hope into it!

Groom yourself //
Give yourself a little pamper session and make yourself even more beautiful. I always like to give myself a little manicure, cleaning up my nails and painting them. If I were going on a date I’d opt for something plain, chic and simple like the Barry M Gelly in ‘Lychee’. If my legs were out I wouldn’t full on tan but to take the edge off I’d use something like the This Works Perfect Legs Skin Miracle which is like a tinted serum that you can apply with your hands and it looks really natural, but makes all the difference! For my hair to keep things tame and frizz-free I’d apply a small amount of the Alterna CC cream to the mid-lengths of my hair. If there are any dry patches left on your body, the Weleda Skin Food will do the trick!

Smell good //
Finally, you want to smell good. Smells always trigger memories for me and I love the idea of someone recognising my perfume on the street and thinking of me. Pick your signature scent and go with it. I love Diptyque Philosykos so what I sometimes do is also use the philosykos shower gel and body lotion so that the scent really lasts on my skin and is noticeable to others. When applying your perfume, spritz it on your hair and just behind your ears (for the goodnight kiss!). I shouldn’t have to remind you, but don’t forget deodorant!

So now you’re prepped, it’s makeup time! Check back tomorrow for a daytime and an evening date makeup look.
