BENEFIT HYDRA-SMOOTH LIP COLOURS

There are loads of exciting launches in September and as part of their packaging re-design Benefit are launching their hydra-smooth lip colours. There are 10 shades split into three levels of coverage; sheer, medium and medium-full and they are £15 each.

So let’s start with the packaging because I think that’s what most people will be talking about when these come out. I posted a photo on Instagram and everyone had really strong opinions on whether they loved the packaging or hated it. The lipsticks come in cardboard tubes and although they look nice I feel like they are a slight waste of materials as I found no use for it so it went in the bin. The lipstick itself looks really unique and like nothing else I’ve seen. They’re tall, plastic and wind up a bit like a chubby stick. I personally prefer a traditional shaped lipstick and find this a little bit gimmicky and slightly awkward to use.

Onto the product! The tip of the lipstick is slanted on both sides which makes application to the majority of the lip really easy, but I did find precision application on the brighter shades quite hard. I also found that the top of the packaging got really messy and I had to clean it up with a tissue. The formula is really moisturising, it’s made with shea, mango butter and vitamin E and it feels really nice and light on the lips. The 3 types of coverage really do what you’d expect them to and fit well within their categories. I was really impressed with how they felt on the lips and would happily spend £15 for the quality of the product.

Saying that, I am really not a fan of the packaging and overall look. It seems strange to me that Benefit is so vibrant and fun, appealing to young girls but then the price tag is quite high… it’s always baffled me. But some of their products are really great so I just look beyond the packaging and the marketing and say just try the products to see if they work for you.

My three favourite shades are ‘Lip Service’, ‘Talk Flirty’ and ‘Dare Me’ worn above in that order.

What are your thoughts on the hydra-smooth lip colours?
