Duck & Waffle, London

This is not so much a review, actually none of my food posts are reviews as such, more ‘I went here and this is what I thought’. The lovely people at Tresemmé treated a group of us to dinner at Duck & Waffle and it was definitely a night to remember.

The restaurant is based in the Heron Tower on the 40th.. no 42nd, no wait 40th floor… this was how our night started. Gemma, Meg and I went up and down in the glass lift very lost – so classy we are. We eventually found it and joined the big table of gossiping bloggers. The view from the top of the tower is incredible and it was amazing to see the whole of London so clearly.

There was no menu, just a constant flow of food and drink… lots of drink. I’ve since taken a look at the menu online and I think we pretty much had everything on it. We couldn’t really understand the waiters accent so ate most things put in front of us without knowing what they were. The first interesting dish was a brown paper bag filled with crispy pig ears… yep, you heard me right. They were actually so good! They reminded me of a softer version of crackling and despite the few that looked a bit too much like ears, I thoroughly enjoyed them. I also really liked the raw scallops that sat on a block of salt for you to rub it on before eating – they were very salty but really refreshing.

The star of the show was of course the duck and waffle. I would have never in a million years thought of putting a crispy duck egg, a fried duck egg, a waffle and maple syrup together but MAN does it work! The duck was incredibly soft and was absolutely delicious with the sweet maple syrup. Unfortunately I was so full by the time this came that I struggled to eat much of it, but I will be returning and ordering this as my main next time! Duck and Waffle? Genius!

In terms of price… well, I didn’t pay, BUT looking at the menu it looks pretty reasonable. The duck and waffle is £13, the scallops £8 and the pig ears £4. It was so good and i definitely want to go again.

Have you been to Duck & Waffle? Do you want to give it a go?
